ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State's bench outscored East Central 27-2 as the Reddies came from behind to beat the Tigers, 76-66.
Lexis Weber scored 11 points and snagged a career-high 16 rebounds,
Ashley Farrar added nine points on 3-of-6 shooting and
Madi Nichols added a season-high seven points as the Reddies used an 18-3 run down the stretch to take control in a key conference matchup.
Hailey Estes led the Reddies with 15 points and eight rebounds, while
Maci Mains extended her double-digit scoring streak to six games after finishing with 13.
Henderson will face a tough test on Saturday when it welcomes in league-leader Southeastern Oklahoma State at 1 p.m.
1st Quarter
Although HSU struck first with a 3-point field goal from Estes, East Central rattled off 10-straight points and led 10-3 after four minutes of action. Moments later, Estes doubled her point total with her second 3-pointer of the opening quarter, helping jumpstart the HSU offense as the Reddies ended the frame on a 16-8 run while cutting ECU's lead to just two, 18-16, after the first.
2nd Quarter
Neither team could find any offensive flow in the second quarter. Following a 3-pointer from
Lani Snowden that gave the Reddies their second lead, 19-18, HSU only managed three field goals over the last eight minutes of the period. Luckily, the offensive woes were contagious, as ECU finished the quarter 4-for-17, but held a 29-26 lead heading into halftime.
3rd Quarter
Coming out of the locker room, it was clear the Reddies wanted to emphasize the inside presence of
Karrington Whaley, who was held scoreless in the first half. Whaley scored the first six points of the third quarter for HSU, but the Tigers continued to build the lead, as a 3-pointer from Hannah Ladd gave ECU its largest advantage, 41-32. Trailing 48-43 with 2:18 to play in the third quarter, the Reddies ripped off an 11-3 run to end the frame and led 54-51 heading into the game's final 10 minutes.
4th Quarter
The Reddies kept the defensive pressure on in the fourth quarter, holding East Central without a point for the first five minutes of the period while building a 62-51 lead. A lightning-quick 5-0 run by ECU made it a six-point game, 62-56 with 3:39 to play, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Mains and
Blu Jones gave the Reddies a three-possession lead, 70-61. ECU would come no closer than eight as HSU stayed perfect in the Duke Wells Center with a 76-66 victory.
