Reddies Win Seventh-Straight Over OBU, 90-67

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State put four players in double figures and used a huge third quarter to defeat Ouachita Baptist for the seventh-straight time 90-67 on Thursday at Bill Vining Arena. The win was the 100th for head coach Jill Thomas in her career at HSU.

Pink Jones led the Reddies (16-7, 11-6) with 20 points, four steals and three assists, while Lani Snowden added 16 on 6-for-12 shooting. Karrington Whaley finished with 14 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, and Hailey Estes added a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double of her own.

Henderson led 27-20 at the break in the rivalry contest after a sloppy first half that featured 25 combined turnovers between the two sides. Ouachita shot 23.8% in the first 20 minutes of the game and went into the locker room with 15 giveaways and just five field goals, but shot 16 free throws to just two for the Reddies to stay within striking distance.

Despite a slow start, the third quarter belonged to the Reddies. Pink Jones scored HSU's first seven points of the half, then found Whaley for a lay-in and Estes for a 3-pointer, to power a 12-4 run which helped the Reddies grab their largest lead of the game, 39-24, at the 7:30 mark of the period.

The advantage only grew from there, as Henderson out-scored OBU 37-22 in the quarter to open up a 64-42 cushion after three. HSU scored 10 more points in the third than it did in the entire first half thanks to 62% shooting from the floor. The result was only a formality the rest of the way, as the Tigers, who were forced to play the final five minutes with no substitutions due to foul trouble and a short bench, never threatened again.

The Reddies scored 63 points in the second half of the win and out-scored Ouachita Baptist 52-34 in the paint. As a team, HSU blocked nine shots and held the Lady Tigers to just 36.4% shooting in the game.

Henderson returns to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when it hosts GAC-leader Harding in the Duke Wells Center.
