Henderson Upends League-Leading Harding, 88-79

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The Reddies hit their first five 3-point shots on Saturday and finished with 14 3-point field goals to take down the league leading Harding Lady Bisons, 88-79.

For the first time this season, the Reddies had three players score 20 or more points as Lani Snowden, Hailey Estes, and Karrington Whaley combined for 62 total. Snowden led HSU with 22 and finished with a career-high six 3-point field goals on just nine attempts.

Estes filled up the stat sheet for the Reddies, scoring 20 points and pulling down 10 rebounds to notch her 11th double-double of the season. Estes also dished out five assists, blocked two shots and secured one steal.

Whaley was excellent on both ends for HSU, pouring in 20 points on a near-perfect 9-of-10 shooting and blocking a season-high five shots.

Maci Mains and Blu Jones also notched double-figures for the Reddies, finishing with 12 and 10, respectively. Pink Jones only scored four, but controlled the game as HSU's primary ball handler, finishing with seven assists to just one turnover.

HSU will be back in action on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when they welcome Southwestern Oklahoma State to the Duke Wells Center.

1st Quarter
Henderson State simply could not miss in the early minutes of Saturday's battle against Harding. Estes got the Reddies on the board from downtown, and hit her second 3-point shot just minutes later to put HSU up 9-6 with 6:36 to go. Moments later, Mains found Snowden behind the arc for the fourth 3-point shot in the first four minutes as the Reddies led 12-6. Following the media timeout, Mains got in on the 3-point action herself after a feed from Pink Jones and made it 17-8 HSU. The Reddies finished the first quarter 7-of-9 from 3-point range and led 25-16.

2nd Quarter
Harding started the second quarter on an 8-3 run to cut HSU's lead to four 28-24, but an excellent entry pass from Ashley Farrar led to a Whaley layup which jump-started a 9-3 response by the Reddies. The quick run put them in front by 10 points, 37-27. The Reddies would get the final bucket of the first half with 1:18 to play, as Blu Jones created a turnover and drove the length of the floor to give HSU a 39-31 halftime lead.

3rd Quarter
The Reddies didn't let the intermission mess with their mojo at the beginning of the third quarter, getting back-to-back 3-point field goals from Snowden and Estes which highlighted an 8-0 run that gave HSU their largest lead, 47-31. Harding whittled the deficit to 10, 58-48 with 3:34 to go, but the Reddies answered by hitting five-straight field goals to end the quarter on a 13-7 run and lead 71-55 heading into the fourth and final frame.

4th Quarter
Henderson State's offense hit its first roadblock at the beginning of the fourth quarter as the Reddies made only two field goals in the first four minutes. Luckily, both field goals turned into three-point plays as Snowden and Whaley connected on contested layups to keep Harding at an arm's length, 77-63. Henderson would keep Harding at a safe distance for the rest of the ball game as the Reddies defeated the Lady Bisons for the third-straight time in the Duke Wells Center, 88-79.
