ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State took advantage of seven errors from Texas A&M-Texarkana and held the Eagles to just two hits on the night to race away for a 9-1 win at Clyde Berry Field on Wednesday evening.
Danny Mitchell Jr. had three hits with two doubles and reached base in all five of his plate appearances to lead the Reddies.
Kaden Argenbright finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and both
Alec Lewis and
Joe Myers each picked up two hits in the win.
The Eagles did not pick up their first hit until the sixth and struggled with mistakes in the game, particularly in the early going, as they committed six errors in the first four innings.
The Reddies took full advantage and plated three runs on three hits and two errors in the bottom of the first to go in front 3-0. A two-out triple from Myers and a two-out double from Mitchell Jr. in back-to-back at-bats helped resurrect what looked like a simple one-two-three frame for HSU.
After two scoreless innings, Henderson struck again in the fourth when another two errors combined with two hits to scratch two more unearned runs for the Reddies and make it 5-0.
TAMUT's first hit in the sixth also brought home its first run to cut the deficit to 5-1, but HSU answered with a knock-out punch in the bottom half of the seventh. The Reddies used just one hit, a 2-RBI triple from Argenbright, as well as six walks and two wild pitches to score four more runs and take a commanding 9-1 lead. The Eagles never registered another hit in the game.
Henderson returns to action on Friday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Arkansas Tech for the series opener at Clyde Berry Field.
