Henderson Handles NWOSU on Senior Day, 81-62

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State hit five 3-pointers in the first quarter on Saturday to run away from the Lady Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma 81-62 on Senior Day.

Maci Mains had one of the most efficient games of her career, knocking down 7-of-11 shots, including four 3-pointers to pour in 19 points. Mains was one of four Reddies in double-figures, joined by Lani Snowden with 14, Hailey Estes who finished with 12, and Karrington Whaley who notched 10.

Pink Jones and Blu Jones also played their final home games at the Duke Wells Center. Pink Jones finished with seven points, seven rebounds, and six assists, while Blu Jones notched nine points and three assists.

Madi Nichols and Brooke Lewis were inserted into the starting lineup for their final games in Arkadelphia. Nichols ended the night with five points in 16 minutes, while Lewis added two points and two rebounds in four minutes.

Henderson State will end the regular season with two contests on the road, beginning with a Thursday night matchup at Southeastern Oklahoma State with tip set for 5:30 p.m.

1st Quarter
Henderson wasted little time before getting hot from 3-point range. Estes gave the Reddies a 5-4 lead with the first 3-pointer of the quarter before Snowden made it 12-8 with a long distance connection from the corner. With HSU in front 16-14, Blu Jones got aggressive, using two confident drives to into the paint which resulted in four-straight free throws and a 20-14 advantage. HSU grabbed the game's momentum at the end of the quarter with 3-pointers from Snowden and Mains to take a 26-20 lead into the second.

2nd Quarter
Although Henderson continued its strong shooting in the second quarter, the Reddies defense stole the show. The Lady Rangers connected on just one field goal attempt in the first eight minutes as HSU outscored Northwestern 21-9 in the period. The Reddies hit four more 3-pointers in the second quarter and finished the first half 9-of-16 from downtown which helped build a 47-29 advantage at the half.

3rd Quarter
It was clear that the Lady Rangers made it a point of emphasis to deny the 3-point shot in the third quarter as the Reddies only took one attempt from behind the arc. However, Henderson was perfectly content to go inside and finished 6-for-11 on 2-point field goals in the frame to take a 65-47 lead into the fourth.

4th Quarter
Northwestern Oklahoma State made one final push at the beginning of the fourth quarter with an 11-5 run that cut Henderson's lead to 70-58 with 7:06 to go. Unfortunately for the visitors, Henderson's defense tightened up, and held the Lady Rangers without a field goal for more than six minutes as the Reddies rebuilt a 21-point lead. With a comfortable lead, the Reddies took the opportunity to sub out each senior individually before taking the victory, 81-62.
