ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Southern Arkansas scored eight runs in the first three innings on Tuesday evening to break away and defeat Henderson State 13-5 at Clyde Berry Field in non-conference action.
The Reddies (10-12, 7-5) walked 13 SAU batters and hit five in the game, which the Muleriders capitalized on throughout the contest by scattering 11 hits — seven of which were doubles.
Kaden Argenbright and Alec Lewis led HSU at the plate. Both freshmen had two hits in the game and drove in a run. Lewis, the two-time GAC Player of the Week, had both of his hits come on doubles.
SAU got on the board in the top of the second when the Muleriders put together five hits, and were aided by three walks and two hit batters, to score five runs and go in front 5-0.Â
Henderson got two back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI from Dalton Guthrie and a passed ball that scored a run, but Southern Arkansas answered with three more in the third and extended its lead out to 8-2. The Reddies walked four Mulerider batters in the frame.
Although HSU plated three more runs in the seventh and eighth, it never got within striking distance again, as SAUÂ maintained a cushion of at least seven runs the rest of the game to claim the win.
The Reddies return to action this weekend when they host Northwestern Oklahoma State in a three-game series at Clyde Berry Field.Â
