Reddies Respond With 3-2 Victory Over SOSU

DURANT, Oklahoma – Henderson State played its second five-set match in as many days. After dropping the marathon contest yesterday, the Reddies came through on Saturday night on the road, downing Southeastern Oklahoma State, 3-2.

Violeta Mendoza Quintana had a match-high 21 kills, carrying a .340 attack percentage, while also registering 12 digs for a double-double. Mya Robinson had a double-double before the second set was even over, finishing her night with 15 kills and 19 digs.

After claiming a double-double in yesterday's match, freshman Madison Hatt saw another 26-assist, 10-dig double-double. Brae Denton, who had 12 blocks yesterday, came through with seven rejections on Saturday night.

SET ONE
Neither team held more than a two-point advantage up until Southeastern held a 19-17 lead. Henderson used a 4-0 spurt to jump ahead 21-19 and then 24-21 after the Savage Storm tied it up at 21-21. The Reddies were unable to capitalize on three match points, however, as SOSU rallied for the 26-24 opening-set win.

SET TWO
After Southeastern held a brief lead to open play in the second frame, Henderson broke through with 11 of the next 12 points to claim a 14-7 advantage. The Savage Storm were able to make it respectable late in the set, but the outcome was never in doubt as HSU got itself on the board, 25-16.

SET THREE
With one set victory under its belt, HSU maintained the momentum, scoring the first five points of the frame. The Reddies continued to build their lead to 11-3. Henderson never let the Savage Storm get closer than five points the rest of the way as Henderson took the third set, 25-13.

SET FOUR
With Henderson standing one set away from leaving Durant with the victory, Southeastern opened the fourth set with other plans, holding a lead all the way through after HSU registered the first point. Southeastern saw its best hitting set in that fourth stint, seeing a clip of .244.

SET FIVE
Southeastern leaned on its home crowd for the race to 15 to close the night, with the Savage Storm holding an early 6-4 edge. After the Reddies found themselves down 7-5, Henderson overcame the home crowd and put together a 5-0 run to see the 10-7 lead.

Mendoza Quintana came through for the final blow, posting four of her 21 kills during the final five points of the match to secure the HSU victory, 15-9.

Henderson State (16-6, 5-4) returns to the Duke Wells Center for another pivotal back-to-back, meeting the current number 22 team in the country Oklahoma Baptist Bison on Thursday, Oct. 22 before facing Southern Nazarene on Friday.
