Reddies Roll Texas College 79-60 in Home Opener

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State had 12 players in the scoring column and outscored Texas College by 29 points in the first half on Wednesday night as the Reddies cruised to a 79-60 win in their home opener.

Malik Riddle led HSU with 15 points while both Tomislav Miholjcic and Graham Chenault added career-highs of 10. Every player who saw the floor scored for the Reddies, who out-rebounded the Steers 42-30 and forced 25 turnovers.

It was all Henderson from the opening tip on Wednesday evening as the Reddies hit four of their first five shots and jumped in front 9-0. The Steers scored six-straight to answer the opening run, but 3-pointers from Xavier Davenport and Franck Kamgain helped power another 11-3 spurt for HSU, who extended its lead to 22-9.

Texas College did its best to hang around, but the Reddies slowly began to open the game up and closed the first half on a 23-7 run to take a commanding 45-16 advantage into the break. Henderson held the Steers to just 30.4% shooting in the first 20 minutes and were 5-of-10 from beyond the arc on the other end of the court.

The Reddies maintained a comfortable advantage through the first eight minutes of the second half and saw their lead balloon out to 32 points on an Andrew Washington basket with 12:39 to go. Texas College showed grit and eventually cut its deficit down to 68-50 at the 6:21 mark, but the Steers got no closer, as HSU kept them at arms length and rolled to a comfortable win.

Henderson was dominant inside the paint in the victory and out-scored Texas College 44-22 in the lane. The Reddies won the points off turnovers battle 32-13 and had 30 second-chance points to just six for the Steers.

HSU returns to action on Saturday 4 p.m. when it travels to face Arkansas-Fort Smith.
