ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State looks to get back in the win column on Saturday when it travels to Searcy, Arkansas to face off with Harding at 7:30 p.m. The contest in the last GAC matchup for the Reddies until after Christmas.Â
REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies took their first GAC loss of the year last Saturday when they fell 84-78 to Arkansas Tech in overtime. HSU trailed by seven with 59 seconds remaining and rallied to force extra time, but shot just 2-for-10 from the floor in the game's final five minutes.
- Malik Riddle leads Henderson in scoring (10.1 points per game) and is the only Reddie averaging double figures. HSU has showcased its depth and versatility with balanced scoring this year and boasts seven players averaging seven or more points per game. Henderson currently has eight players averaging 20-plus minutes per game.
- Through three contests, the Reddies rank fourth in the GAC in scoring defense (65.3 points per game) and ninth in scoring offense (65.7). Henderson excels at guarding the perimeter and is No. 2 in the league in 3-point percentage defense (28% shooting for opponents). The Reddies also lead the conference in steals (11 per game) and are second in the GAC in turnover margin (+3.67).
- HSU has flipped the script in the series with Harding in recent years. Henderson has won eight of the last 10 matchups and defeated the Bisons by 20-plus points three different times last season. HU had won seven-straight over the Reddies prior to 2017-18. Henderson leads the all-time series 84-47.
- The Reddies are looking to start 3-1 in GAC play for the first time since 2016-17. HSU opened league play 6-1 that season before finishing 11-11 in the conference.
SCOUTING HARDING
- Harding enters Saturday's contest 3-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play. The Bisons have dropped their last two contests on the road and have not played at home in the Rhodes-Reaves Field House since Dec. 2.Â
- The Bisons have a formidable one-two punch in forward Taylor Currie and guard Stetson Smithson. Currie, a transfer from Division I Akron, averages 19.8 points and 7.8 rebounds this season for HU, while Smithson averages 16.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and is shooting 48.7% from beyond the arc.Â
- As a team, Harding ranks fifth in the GAC in scoring offense (70.3 points per game) and 12th in scoring defense (78.7). The Bisons have a rebounding margin of -5.7 and a turnover margin of -4.33 in conference play. HU has hit 23 3-pointers through three GAC games, which ranks third-most of any team in the league.Â
