Reddies Pull Off 3-Game Sweep of Rangers

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State scored a season-high 11 runs in the final game of its series against Northwestern Oklahoma St. as HSU won, 11-5, sweeping NWOSU in the weekend series. This was the first GAC series-sweep for the Reddies since March of 2018.

Krystal Lindsey saw her first career win in the circle as a member of Henderson St. The freshman pitcher strung together five strikeouts while only allowing two hits to NWOSU in four innings pitched. Ashlyn Taylor and Monica Monreal were responsible for a total of five runs as six Reddies saw at least one RBI.

In every game this series, Northwestern got on the board first, with game three being no different as two runs from NWOSU gave them the early 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first inning. Two runs from HSU in its first at-bat tied it up, 2-2, with RBIs from Monreal and Kailey Reese.

With neither team bringing in a run in the second, the Rangers scored its third and fourth run in the top of the third frame. That was the last lead Northwestern saw as Henderson took the lead on three runs in the fourth, followed by six runs in the fifth, as nine unanswered runs gave the Reddies an 11-4 lead.

With only giving up one hit in the top of the sixth and seventh inning, Lindsey kept NWOSU from mounting a comeback as Henderson State wound up with the 11-5 win, completing the sweep. The Reddies saw 13 hits in the victory as four HSU batters saw multiple hits in the outing.

Henderson State (6-16, 5-9) will step away from conference play this week when it welcomes Christian Brothers University of the Gulf South Conference to Dee White Field for a doubleheader Tuesday, Mar. 23 at 2 and 4 p.m.
