ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Arkansas Tech racked up 17 hits and hit four home runs to defeat Henderson State 13-7 on Tuesday night at Clyde Berry Field in a midweek contest.
Joe Myers led the Reddies at the plate and finished 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning — his fifth long ball of the year.
Corbin Tsistinas and
Greyson Stevens also had two hits for HSU.
The Wonder Boys built a commanding early lead behind three home runs in the first 2.1 innings of play and held a 10-1 advantage through six frames. ATU scored three runs in the first, third and fifth innings.
Henderson got back into the game in the bottom half of the sixth, when the Reddies plated six runs on five hits to trim the deficit to 10-7. A double from
Kaden Argenbright, a two-RBI triple from
Daniel Colasanto, a bloop single from
Nick Butler and Myers' two-run shot all drove in runs for HSU.
Tech stemmed the tide in the seventh inning, however, and used three two-out hits — which included its fourth home run — to score three more and pad the lead, 13-7. HSU never recovered and went down in order in the final two frames to end it.
Trevor Gracey took his first loss of the season for the Reddies on the mound after pitching 2.2 innings and allowing six runs — only three of which were earned.
Blake Patterson pitched well in relief for Henderson and struck out five batters in a scoreless 2.1 innings of work.
The Reddies return to action on Friday when they host Southwestern Oklahoma State in the first game of a three-game set at 6 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
