Henderson Blasts ECU in Senior Day Doubleheader

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State's offense exploded for 33 runs in the doubleheader on Saturday as the Reddies blasted East Central 11-0 and 22-3 on Senior Day at Clyde Berry Field.

Multiple seniors had big days in the sweep for HSU, including Daniel Colasanto, who had seven RBIs and a home run, Jake Dunn, who was 5-for-5 at the plate with three walks, and Danny Mitchell Jr., who had five hits, two home runs and six RBIs.

The Reddies (16-13, 12-11) will look for the sweep tomorrow when they face ECU in the series finale at 1 p.m.

GAME 1: Henderson State 11, East Central 0
Spencer Taack delivered a gem on the mound for HSU and Daniel Colasanto hit a two-run homer to highlight an 11-0 run-rule victory for the Reddies in the series opener.

Taack was superb for Henderson and pitched a seven-inning complete game shut-out. Taack struck out seven batters, walked two and allowed just one hit. It was the longest outing of Taack's career and his first complete game effort. The junior from Dallas now has a 3.41 ERA — the best mark on the team among starting pitchers.

Colasanto finished 2-for-3 in the win with a two-run homer and a two-RBI double. The home run was just the second of Colasanto's time at HSU.

Jake Dunn, who entered the game with one hit in his six-year career at Henderson, finished the game 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.

Seven different Reddies had multi-hit games in the victory and seven drove in runs. Turner Pentecost secured the first hit of his career for HSU, while Avery Davis recorded his first RBI on a sac fly in the sixth inning.

The Reddies scored in every inning but the third and racked up a season-high 17 hits.

GAME 2: Henderson State 22, East Central 3
The Reddies plated a season-best 22 runs and put up a crooked number in every inning to crush ECU 22-3 and win the series in the second game on Saturday.

HSU scored at least two runs in every frame of game two, including three in the first, four in both the third and sixth, and a whopping seven in the fourth inning.

Danny Mitchell Jr. was the catalyst for Henderson and finished 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBIs. Joe Myers also had a big game with two hits, two runs scored, his team-leading ninth home run of the season and five RBIs.

Already leading 9-3, HSU blew the game open in the fourth when it brought 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on four hits. The Tigers walked five batters in the inning and 11 in the contest.

Jake Dunn, who had three hits in the opener, scored four runs, slapped two more hits and walked twice in the second contest. Dunn did not record an out in the doubleheader and reached base safely eight times.

Senior Blake Patterson got his first start for Henderson since 2016 and pitched the first two innings. Ethan Perry got the win in relief after pitching the next three frames, striking out five and allowing just three hits. Reddies pitchers struck out nine ECU batters in the win.

Nine different players had hits for the Reddies, including Avery Davis and Kameron Whitmore, who each had doubles. Davis's two-bagger was the first hit of his career and drove in a run.
