ADA, Oklahoma – Henderson State forced game two into extra innings, but lost on a walk-off single as the Reddies dropped Saturday's doubleheader against ninth-place East Central, 11-3 and 6-5, respectively.
Monica Monreal and
Czoey White highlighted the day for HSU as both girls saw two hits and three RBIs in the pair of contests.
Â
GAME ONE
Following an error from the Tigers and a
Kailey Reese walk, the Reddies got on the board first with a double from
Abbie Moore, scoring O'Quinn and advancing Reese to third. One batter later, with only one out against HSU, Monreal sent up a sacrifice fly to right field, sending Reese home to take the early 2-0 lead.
Â
Mallory Brewer was able to keep the Tigers scoreless in their first at-bat, but ECU brought in five runs on five hits and two errors in the bottom of the second to take the 5-2 advantage heading into the third.
Â
The score remained as such until White cut into the deficit with a her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the top of the fourth to make it 5-3. East Central raised HSU a run and then some, however, breaking it open in the bottom of the frame to make it 11-3 with play moving to the fifth.
Â
With the Tigers building the eight-run lead, three up-three down in the top of the fifth spelled the end of play at 11-3. Game two remained for HSU to salvage the day and claim the split.
Â
GAME TWO
Similar to game one, HSU got the scoring started, this time with a three-run top of the first. With two outs, HSU saw an RBI from
Addie Jordan to score Moore followed by a two-RBI double from White to score Jordan and Monreal as the Reddies took a 3-0 lead. That lead was quickly cut down to one, however, as the Tigers responded with a two-run bottom of the frame.
Â
With East Central able to tie it in the second, 3-3, Monreal gave Henderson its next two runs as a sacrifice fly in the top of the third and then a single in the top of the fifth gave HSU the 5-3 advantage.
Â
The score remained 5-3 until ECU's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth when a double from the Tigers' Charley Avery knotted up the score at 5-5. With the seventh inning coming and going without any runs, play went into extra innings.
Â
The Reddies were unable to separate themselves at all in their first at-bat of the extra frame as East Central stood to take the game in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs and a girl on 2nd and 3rd, ECU used a walk-off single to take the back half of the doubleheader, 6-5.
Â
The Reddies (11-26, 8-18) will look to take game three against East Central at Tiger Field tomorrow at 12 p.m.
