HSU Edged Out by Tigers, Drop Doubleheader

ADA, Oklahoma – Henderson State forced game two into extra innings, but lost on a walk-off single as the Reddies dropped Saturday's doubleheader against ninth-place East Central, 11-3 and 6-5, respectively. Monica Monreal and Czoey White highlighted the day for HSU as both girls saw two hits and three RBIs in the pair of contests.

GAME ONE
Following an error from the Tigers and a Kailey Reese walk, the Reddies got on the board first with a double from Abbie Moore, scoring O'Quinn and advancing Reese to third. One batter later, with only one out against HSU, Monreal sent up a sacrifice fly to right field, sending Reese home to take the early 2-0 lead.

Mallory Brewer was able to keep the Tigers scoreless in their first at-bat, but ECU brought in five runs on five hits and two errors in the bottom of the second to take the 5-2 advantage heading into the third.

The score remained as such until White cut into the deficit with a her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the top of the fourth to make it 5-3. East Central raised HSU a run and then some, however, breaking it open in the bottom of the frame to make it 11-3 with play moving to the fifth.

With the Tigers building the eight-run lead, three up-three down in the top of the fifth spelled the end of play at 11-3. Game two remained for HSU to salvage the day and claim the split.

GAME TWO
Similar to game one, HSU got the scoring started, this time with a three-run top of the first. With two outs, HSU saw an RBI from Addie Jordan to score Moore followed by a two-RBI double from White to score Jordan and Monreal as the Reddies took a 3-0 lead. That lead was quickly cut down to one, however, as the Tigers responded with a two-run bottom of the frame.

With East Central able to tie it in the second, 3-3, Monreal gave Henderson its next two runs as a sacrifice fly in the top of the third and then a single in the top of the fifth gave HSU the 5-3 advantage.

The score remained 5-3 until ECU's at-bat in the bottom of the sixth when a double from the Tigers' Charley Avery knotted up the score at 5-5. With the seventh inning coming and going without any runs, play went into extra innings.

The Reddies were unable to separate themselves at all in their first at-bat of the extra frame as East Central stood to take the game in the bottom of the eighth. With two outs and a girl on 2nd and 3rd, ECU used a walk-off single to take the back half of the doubleheader, 6-5.

The Reddies (11-26, 8-18) will look to take game three against East Central at Tiger Field tomorrow at 12 p.m.
