MAGNOLIA, Ark. –
Abbie Moore posted two hits on the day – one in each game – extending her hitting streak to eight games in a row and 11 of her last 12 appearances as Henderson State fell to Southern Arkansas in both of the day's games, 12-3 and 7-0, respectively. Game three of the series is tomorrow at 12 p.m. Â
Â
GAME ONE
Henderson State got on the board first thanks to
Taylor Sledd and two SAU fielding errors. After
Kaitlyn O'Quinn reached second base on two errors on the same play, Sledd singled to right field, bringing home O'Quinn for the first score of the game as HSU saw an early 1-0 lead.
Â
That lead was erased upon the Muleriders' first at-bat as three hits from SAU showed a 4-1 lead heading into the second inning.
Addie Jordan started off the second frame in promising fashion for the Reddies as she delivered a single to get on base. Solid field play from Southern Arkansas, however, closed out the inning three batters later.
Â
The Muleriders only managed a single run in the bottom of the second and no runs in the bottom of the third to keep the game within reach at 5-1, but the fourth inning is where SAU pulled away completely, seeing seven runs in the bottom of the frame to build a 12-1 lead. Henderson needed four runs in its next at-bat to move the game to the bottom of the fifth.
Â
Czoey White attempted to keep play alive past the Reddies' fifth at-bat as she delivered her seventh double of the season in the top of the fifth and was credited with two RBIs, bringing home
Crysta Larey and
Macie Pampell. A single from Moore to follow nearly extended the game, but a massive throw from center field to the catcher retired White as she was attempting to score from second, giving SAU the run-rule victory, 12-3.
Â
GAME TWO
Game two did not see its first run scored from either side until the third inning when Southern Arkansas broke open the scoring with a three-run bottom of the third. Later in the fifth inning, Moore singled through the left side, making it now eight games in row that Moore has seen at least a hit. The sophomore third baseman also has seven doubles on the season.
Â
Henderson managed four hits in game two as the pre-season ranked No. 1 Muleriders ran away with the latter of the doubleheader, 7-0. Both
Leann Beasley and
Krystal Lindsey saw action in the circle as the freshman combined for three strikeouts.
