Baseball Powers Past Harding in Midweek Bout

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State pounded out 14 hits and slugged its way past Harding 13-9 in its final home game of the regular season on Tuesday night at Clyde Berry Field.

Danny Mitchell Jr. led the Reddies (18-13) by going 3-for-4 at the plate. Mitchell Jr. had a double, two RBIs and four runs scored on the night. Joe Myers also had a big game for HSU and went 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Myer's four runs driven in pushed him over the century mark in RBIs for his career at Henderson.

Harding jumped all over the Reddies early and hit back-to-back solo home runs to open the game, but Henderson came roaring back quickly. HSU got one run in the bottom of the first, then exploded for five runs on four hits in the second inning to go in front 6-2. The big at-bat in the second came from Myers, who blasted a 3-RBI triple on a 3-2 count with two outs.

After a 2-RBI single from Mitchell Jr. in the third added to Henderson's lead, the Reddies plated three runs without recording a hit in the fifth, and two more in the sixth, to open up their largest lead, 13-4.

The Bisons tried to rally and scored five unanswered runs in the seventh and eighth, but HSU relievers Cade Tucker and Taylor Langston held them off down the stretch as the Reddies held on for their 16th home win of the year. Langston struck out the side in order to end it for Henderson in the ninth.

Eight different players had hits in the win for Henderson and five had multi-hit games. Ethan Perry earned the win in relief for the Reddies after pitching 1.1 innings and allowing no runs on just one hit. Austin Cross started his ninth game of the season for HSU and gave up three earned runs on five hits in 3.2 innings.

Henderson hits the road this weekend when it travels to Durant, Oklahoma to face Southeastern Oklahoma State in a three-game GAC series on Saturday and Sunday.
