SHAWNEE, Okla. — Henderson State plated 13 runs in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, but Oklahoma Baptist scored 18 on 23 hits to defeat the Reddies and tie the series at one game apiece.
Bryson Haskins was excellent for HSU at the plate and finished with three hits, three RBIs and two home runs. CJ Hughes also had a home run for the Reddies — the first deep fly of his career.
On a windy day in Shawnee, the contest was a wild, back-and-forth affair for the first six innings. The lead changed hands six different times, as HSU scored in five of the first six frames, including three-run second and third innings. OKBU scored three in the first, five in the fifth and held a slim 11-10 advantage entering the bottom of the seventh.Â
It was in the seventh that Oklahoma Baptist broke the game open. The Bison scored six runs on five hits, which included two home runs and two doubles, to open up a commanding 17-10 lead. Henderson never got closer than five runs again, as OKBU closed it out to tie the series.
The Bison got to HSU starter Matthew Baker after 3.1 innings and swung hot bats all game. Oklahoma Baptist had 10 extra-base hits in its win — two home runs and eight doubles.
Henderson took advantage of six OKBU errors in the game. Eight of the Reddies runs were unearned.Â
HSU and Oklahoma Baptist will meet in the series-deciding third game later this afternoon.Â
