OWENSBORO, Kentucky – Henderson St. dropped its second match of the season after meeting Missouri Western in the first match of the Kentucky Wesleyan tournament, 25-21, 25-22, 25-18.

Taylor Scalzi had 11 set assists to go along with seven digs. The Liberty Christian High School product has seen double-digit assists in each contest thus far.

The Reddies (4-2) will look to regroup before taking on the tournament host Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers at 3 p.m.

SET ONE
Early on, this match proved to be a story of runs. Henderson scored the first point of the match off a
Violeta Mendoza Quintana kill before MWSU went on an 8-2 run to take a commanding 8-3 lead right out of the gate.

The Reddies had a run of their own when it looked like Missouri Western was about to cruise to a first-set victory with 6-0 run to bring the score to 20-17. With the Griffons already having the three-point advantage, points were alternated the rest of the way as MWSU took the first set, 25-21.

SET TWO
Henderson saw its most effective set come in the second frame as it hit .205 with 15 kills. The Reddies kept it close most of the set, even seeing a brief lead early on at 5-4 and again at 17-16.

Off a timeout from MWSU head coach Marian Carbin, the Griffons proceeded to go on a 6-0 run to all but put the second set away, eventually taking the second set, 25-22, moving 25 points away from taking the opening match of the tournament. Â

SET THREE
Missouri Western kept up the momentum from the second set, delivering another blow in the form of a run, scoring the first eight points of the third frame. The Reddies refused to simply lay down, scoring the next three points to bring the tally to 8-3. The damage had already been done, however, as MWSU delivered HSU its second loss of the season with a 25-18 third set. Â Â
