ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State put on a show for the home crowd Tuesday evening as the Reddies posted their fourth sweep of the short 2021 season, defeating the Christian Brothers Lady Buccaneers, 25-16, 25-17, 25-11.
Â
Freshman outside hitter
Christiane Uzoh upheld the strong team hitting percentage as she registered nine kills while hitting a team-high .600.
Taylor Scalzi and
Makenzie Thoman both held the fort down in their respective areas, giving HSU 17 set assists and 17 digs, respectively.
Â
Mya Robinson padded the stat sheet as she put up six kills, two aces, four blocks and 11 digs in the triumph. True freshman
Skylar Fernandez saw her career high assists, albeit from a small sample size, as she registered three helping hands off the bench. Â Â
Â
SET ONE
Henderson State benefitted greatly from its home crowd as the Reddie faithful forced CBU into six attack errors and six service errors as it controlled the first frame from start to finish. Henderson got kills from five different girls as it cruised to the first set victory, 25-16.
Â
SET TWO
After a 3-0 lead out of the gate for HSU, the Lady Buccaneers kept it close for the beginning of the second set, but the power of HSU was too much, as 12 kills from the Reddies gave them the second set nod, 25-17.
Â
SET THREE
Henderson had the end in sight from the get-go as it raced out to a 7-2 lead before CBU head coach Bre Lewis called timeout to stop the bleeding. If anything, the stoppage of time inspired HSU to end it that much sooner as the hosts proceeded to go on an 18-9 run to leave no doubt, completing the sweep with a 25-11 final set.
Â
Henderson State (4-1) head to its next tournament of the season in Owensboro, Kentucky, where it will meet Missouri Western State, Kentucky Wesleyan, University of Montevallo and Lee University in a span of two days at the Kentucky Wesleyan Tournament Sept. 10-11.
