Red Wave Women Defeat Eagles, Men Fall By Three

FINAL RESULTS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State swam its second meet in as many days, this time inside the confines of Wells Natatorium for the first time this season, as the Red Wave women defeated Oklahoma Christian, 153.5-77.5. The men, despite having their 200 free relay team beat the 2023 NCAA qualifying time, fell to the current fifth-ranked Eagles, 117-114.

The domination of the ladies side began with HSU winning both relays with Aimee Miller, Bianca Santiago, Izzy Andrews and Kiara Pozvai finishing the 400 medley relay in 4:01.36 - a whole three seconds ahead of OC's second-place quartet - before Pozvai, Andrews, Emily Chen and Mackenzie Kester touched the wall first in the 200 free relay (1:36.29).

Jayme Simmer, after winning the 1000 free and coming in second in the 500 yesterday in Little Rock, flip-flopped by getting first in the 500 (5:18.87) and getting second in the 1000 (10:54.63). Simmer defeated the Eagles' Mallory Mead by five seconds in the 500.

True freshman Ryan Grasser and Izzy Andrews both claimed their first individual wins of the season with Grasser pacing the field in the 200 free (2:00.49) before Andrews garnered top honors in the 100 butterfly (59.31). Emma Jorgensen (2:12.62) and Bianca Santiago (2:13.75) one, twoed the 200 IM while, for the second straight day, Pozvai swept her individual races, winning the 50 free (23.63) and 100 free (51.74). Kester also came in second in both the 50 and 100 free behind Pozvai.

On the men's side, the 200 free relay team of Jack Armstrong, Patryk Dabrowski, Jase Pinckney and Lamar Taylor posted a 2023 NCAA qualifying time, touching the wall at 1:20.19. All four swimmers swam sub-20.43 legs while Taylor logged a 19.34 final 50.

Armstrong, as he did yesterday, also claimed victories in the 50 (20.91) and 100 free (44.82). Taylor topped the podium in the 100 backstroke (50.07) while Pinckney paced the competitors in the 100 fly by more than three seconds (49.62).

The Red Wave will enjoy a little break before hosting cross-street rival Ouachita Baptist on homecoming weekend Friday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. with a dedication of the new Coak Matthews Scoreboard taking place right before the meet at 5:45 p.m.
