HSU Defeats SAU in Four Sets on Senior Night

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State goes four sets with Southern Arkansas University on the final home match of the season. The Reddies won the first two sets, but the Muleriders would take the third, though, it would not be enough as HSU would win the fourth set sealing a 3-1 victory.
 
Before the match, the Reddies honored Kaitlyn Sykes as she took the court in the Duke Wells Center for the final time. The middle blocker was active in the attack and the defense, tallying eight kills and five blocks. Sykes finished the match with a .286 attack average and got to take a rare serve.
 
A handful of Reddies had a standout performance against the Muleriders. Outside hitters Christiane Uzoh and Aleah Stogner tallied the most kills for HSU, with 13 each. Stogner ended the match with a double-double with 18 digs to go along with her 13 kills. Larkin Luke had a career-high night with 11 kills, surpassing her previous high of five. Luke finished the match with an attack percentage of .267 and a block assist. 
 
Brae Denton had an impressive night against SAU, recording six kills and three blocks. The sophomore middle blocker had a .357 attack average to go with her kills. Madison Hatt continues to add to her double-double total, registering 30 assists and 11 digs, bringing her total to ten. Along with Hatt, Nathalie Van had 12 assists and ten digs to give the freshman her second of the season.
 
SET ONE
The Muleriders stuck first and often as they took an early 5-1 lead. Southern Arkansas would be their own enemy in the first set, committing six errors which would help the Reddies cut into the SAU lead, 10-9. The Muleriders would outscore Henderson 8-2, taking a 19-13 lead, but HSU rallied with a six-point run to trail by one, 21-20.
 
The two sides could not find any separation as the Muleriders continued to lead 24-23. Henderson would capitalize off two errors by SAU to take a 25-24 lead and close out the set with a kill from Uzoh, winning 27-25.
 
SET TWO
The reverse of set one would see Henderson take an early 5-1 lead over Southern Arkansas. The Reddies would keep a slim lead over SAU until a pair of kills from Stogner gave the side some breathing room, up 15-10. The Muleriders would storm back to tie the set at 17 all, but Henderson responded, outscoring SAU 7-2. Luke would end the frame with a kill and give the Reddies a 2-0 lead.
 
SET THREE
A close start to the set would see the two sides tied at 5-5 before the Muleriders took a three-point advantage over HSU. SAU would expand on its lead, but Henderson never allowed them to get too far ahead, down 11-9. Southern Arkansas continued to hold a slim lead, but a pair of kills from Stogner closed the gap to just two, 22-20. The Reddies would get within one, but it would not be enough as Southern Arkansas won its first set of the match 25-23.
 
SET FOUR
SAU scored the first two points of the set, but a flurry of attacks by HSU would give the Reddies an 8-2 lead. The Muleriders fought back in the set after the early blitz by Henderson, as they trailed 10-8. However, HSU remained dominant in attack, taking an 18-10 lead over Southern Arkansas. In complete control, Henderson State would win the set 25-16.  
 
Henderson State (9-18. 3-12) will travel to Monticello, Ark. to take on the University of Arkansas-Monticello in the final match of the season on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.
