Hot Shooting Wonder Boys Down Henderson, 73-64

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Henderson State suffered its first conference loss of the season Monday evening at the hands of the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys from inside Tucker Coliseum, 73-64.

Arkansas Tech shot 47.1 percent (24-51) from the field and 40.0 percent (10-25) from behind the arc compared to HSU's 25.0 percent (5-20) from beyond the perimeter. Leading-scorer Franck Kamgain continued his role as such, pacing the Reddies with 18 points while grabbing six rebounds.

Henderson St. (4-4, 2-1) will return to the Duke Wells Center for the final game of 2022 when it hosts Harding Saturday, Dec. 17 at 3 p.m. as the Reddies will look to extend its winning streak over the Bisons to six games.

Henderson grabbed the lead early Monday evening, with big man Tomislav Miholjcic scoring four of his 10 points within the first three minutes of game time before HSU went into the first media timeout of the contest ahead, 8-6. From there, Arkansas Tech opened a 14-4 run to seize the largest lead of the game with 9:45 remaining in the first half, 20-12.

The Wonder Boys got the advantage up to 12 before Henderson was able to cut into the deficit prior to heading into the locker room, trailing by seven until Tech hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer at the halftime horn to take a 36-26 lead into the break. The Reddies shot 32.14 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes compared to ATU's 48.0 percent.

Similar to how it began the game, Henderson opened the second half with a 7-0 run thanks to five points from Alvin Miles, including an and-1 that brought the Reddies to within three, 36-33. Back-to-back three point plays from Tech to follow the run, however, allowing the Wonder Boys to reestablish a nine-point lead and control of the game, 42-33.

That final change in momentum fueled Arkansas Tech the rest of the way, building its lead to 19 at one point before Henderson trimmed it back to nine prior to the final buzzer, 73-64.
