Big Seventh Inning Gives Reddies Win in Game Two

ALVA, Oklahoma – Thanks to a five-run seventh inning in the day's first contest, Henderson State split the doubleheader portion of the weekend series against the Northwestern Oklahoma State Lady Rangers in Alva, Oklahoma, winning game one, 9-6, before falling in the rubber match, 4-2.

As a team, the Reddies registered three home runs on the day, with two of them coming from freshmen Madison Treutlein and Savannah Hughes, both of which were the first of their collegiate careers. Treutlein logged three RBIs in the first game, finishing with a two-game total of three hits, four RBIs and one run, elevating her team-high batting average to .400.

Henderson St. (7-24, 4-10) will take another mid-week break from conference action when it hosts Delta St. for two games Tuesday, Mar. 22. Both programs played in Cleveland, Mississippi, earlier this season as the teams split the contests.

Game 1: Henderson State 9, Northwestern Oklahoma St. 6
It was a full team effort to take the win in game one as four Reddies threw at least one inning while 10 batters claimed a hit for HSU. The first hit of the outing came from Treutlein, who saw the first home run of her young career to put HSU ahead, 1-0. A run from Northwestern in the bottom of the frame tied it up at one.

Brooke Johnson came in to relieve Monica Monreal in the second as she kept the Lady Rangers scoreless over the next two innings to maintain the tie until the fourth when Bre Jones scored off a Northwestern error after getting hit by a pitch to lead off the at-bat. Once again, NWOSU responded with the game-tying run in the bottom of the frame.

The Lady Rangers were able to get out in front for the first time after holding the Reddies at bay in the top of the fifth, plating two runs to move ahead, 4-2, but it was Henderson's turn to respond, using a Treutlein sacrifice fly and a Monreal single to tie things up once again, 4-4.

When it looked HSU would have the chance to head into the top of the final inning with a tied ballgame, a two-out RBI single from NWOSU put the pressure on the visiting Reddies, facing a 5-4 deficit heading into the seventh frame. The traveling fans did not have to sweat it out for long, however, as Abbie Moore led things off with a home run to tie the game for the fourth time.

That would be the last tie the game would see as Henderson used the Moore bomb as momentum, leading to a four-hit, five-run at-bat that delivered the largest lead of the game on either side. A last-ditch effort sixth run came for the Lady Rangers, but that would be it as Henderson took the day's opening game, 9-6.

Game 2: Northwestern Oklahoma St. 4, Henderson State 2
Treutlein was once again responsible for the first run of the game, this time coming via a single to right field, scoring Justine Burch after leading off the contest with a single. The lead was maintained until the bottom of the second when Northwestern opened the game up a bit with three runs to seize a two-run lead, 3-1.

An insurance run was added in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-1 as that was the last run the Lady Rangers would see on the day. Unfortunately for the Reddies, a Hughes home run in the top of the fifth would be the last run of the day for Henderson.

With Brooke Johnson and Addison Tidwell working a pair of walks, sending the go-ahead run to the plate in the top of the seventh with a runner on second and third via a passed ball, a groundout to the shortstop gave NWOSU the win, 4-2.
