ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State (4-15, 2-2) fell in the first game of the three-game weekend series to Arkansas-Monticello Friday afternoon, 14-2. Games two and three will be played at Dee White Field tomorrow beginning at 12:00 p.m.
Crysta Larey claimed two hits in the outing, marking her second multi-hit game of the young season.
Abbie Moore also registered her fifth straight game with a hit while also delivering one of HSU's two runs on the day.
Both teams started the contest off hot with UAM seeing three runs in the top of the first before HSU used a
Madison Treutlein groundout and a Larey double to plate two runners and cut the deficit to one, 3-2. The Blossoms' next at-bat showed starting pitcher
Erika Bittinger work three up, three down to give the Reddies a chance to take the lead in the bottom of the second.
A two-out single from Treutlein in the bottom of the second loaded the bases for Henderson, but nothing came from it with the score still favoring Monticello by one. Such was the fate of HSU's next at-bat, as the score remained 3-2 with play moving to the fourth frame.
The Blossoms opened up the scoring in its fourth at-bat, seeing two runs followed by eight runs in the fifth to finish things early, 14-2. Henderson will look to go 2-0 tomorrow in order to win its second GAC series of the season.Â
