Reddie Softball Edged Out in Doubleheader

DURANT, Oklahoma – Henderson State lost both contests on the day by a mere two total runs, as the first contest of the doubleheader saw Southeastern take it in extra innings, 2-1, before seeing an early 2-0 lead withstand a Reddie threat to take the series finale, 2-1.

Ashlyn Taylor and Abbie Moore each logged multi-hit games on the day, with Taylor's two-hit outing being the first of the season for her. Both Krystal Lindsey and Brooke Johnson pitched complete games with both arms only allowing two runs each in the effort.

Henderson St. (12-39, 9-21) will have one final GAC series of the season when it heads to Shawnee, Oklahoma, to take on Oklahoma Baptist in a single game Friday, April 29 at 5 p.m. with a doubleheader to follow Saturday, April 30 beginning at 12 p.m.

Game 2: Southeastern Oklahoma St. 2, Henderson State 1
The Henderson defense and starting pitcher Brooke Johnson executed a "bend, don't break" mentality in the early game, giving up at least one hit in each of the first five innings, while only allowing one run in that time, stranding five Savage Storm runners.

The Reddie offense saw a similar fate regarding the runs without the luxury of the hits, claiming just a single base-knock in the team's first five at-bats. Nonetheless, the score stood at 1-0 in favor of SOSU heading into the sixth inning.

With Southeastern seeing its first run in the fifth, Henderson responded in turn with its first run in the sixth, doubling its hit total up to that point thanks to a lead-off double from [Ashlyn] Taylor followed by a [Madison] Treutlein single to bring the tally even, 1-1.

After SOSU claimed one more hit in the bottom of the sixth while unable to change the score, the seventh inning so no hits from either side for the first time all game as play moved to extra innings.

Henderson threatened to take the lead in the eighth with its second two-hit inning of the game, but the home team held off any lead change until the bottom of the ninth, when the Savage Storm's own Jaleigh Durst hit a walk-off homerun to take the second game of the weekend series, 2-1.

Game 3: Southeastern Oklahoma St. 2, Henderson State 1
Southeastern got the scoring going early in the series finale unlike the earlier contest, but Krystal Lindsey kept the Savage Storm from crossing home plate over the final five innings. Two runs, two hits and two errors in the first inning put SOSU up early, 2-0.

Lindsey allowed just five more hits the rest of the way, but runs evaded the Reddies the entirety of play until the sixth inning when HSU delivered its biggest threat of the game with three hits that resulted in the lone run for the visitors.

With HSU loading the bases with one out in the second-to-last frame, Henderson was inches away from tying the game, but a heads-up fielding play from SOSU resulted in the second out occurring at home plate before a groundout to the pitcher put an end to the threat, leading to the eventual end of the series as SOSU took the second game of the day, 2-1.
