Reddies Crush Tech in Saturday Finale, Win Fifth GAC Series

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State blitzed Arkansas Tech 11-0 in the series finale on Saturday to secure its fifth GAC series victory of the year at Clyde Berry Field.

The win improved the Reddies to 25-11 overall and 15-9 in conference play. HSU is 18-4 at home this year and is currently in a tie for second place in the league standings with three weekends remaining in the regular season.

Kaden Argenbright had a huge day at the plate for HSU and finished 7-for-9 with five runs and four RBIs across the two games. David Vilches hit his team-leading 13th home run of the season while Greyson Stevens added five hits in seven plate appearances.

Henderson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Batesville, Arkansas to take on Lyon College in a midweek contest at 5 p.m.

GAME 2: Henderson State 11, Arkansas Tech 0
The Reddies got going early in the series finale and never looked back, as they raced past Arkansas Tech 11-0 in the rubber match to win the GAC series at Clyde Berry Field.

The two biggest swings of the game came from Vilches and Argenbright, who each hit home runs in the first and fourth innings, respectively. Argenbright was 4-for-4 in the win with three RBIs and three runs, while Stevens finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored.

Henderson starter Ryan Galvan was excellent and improved to 4-0 on the season by pitching five innings and allowing no runs on just two hits. Galvan walked five ATU batters but rolled two double plays and finished with two strikeouts.

Tech drew three walks in the first inning, but Galvan used a double play and a strikeout to escape with no damage done. The Reddies took advantage of the momentum in the bottom half, as an RBI from Dillon Thomas and Vilches' two-run blast gave HSU an early 3-0 lead.

The Reddies broke the game open in the fourth when they scored four more runs on four hits. Argenbright's three-run home run highlighted the inning, while a triple from Stevens an RBI bunt single from Thomas provided the last score and made it 7-0.

Arkansas Tech saw the wheels come off in the bottom of the fifth, as Henderson used four hits, a walk, an error and a wild pitch to push its lead out to 10-0. An RBI double from Nick Butler added the 11th and final run for HSU in the sixth. Andrew Howard pitched the last two innings and preserved the shutout by striking out three batters and surrendering just two hits.

HSU out-hit Tech 13-4 in the finale and had five hits go for extra bases. Vilches' home run was his 13th of the year, which leaves him just two away from tying the program record of 15 in a single season.

GAME 1: Arkansas Tech 10, Henderson State 8
HSU got three hits from Argenbright and a home run from Thomas in the first game on Saturday, but Arkansas Tech pounded out 14 hits and held on late for a 10-8 win to salvage a game of the weekend series in Arkadelphia.

Reddie starter Cade Tucker went 4.1 innings and allowed six runs on nine hits. ATU took control of a 2-2 game in the fifth when it scored four runs on five hits to seize a 6-2 lead.

Henderson responded with three runs on four hits in the bottom half of the inning to trim the deficit to 6-5, but Tech got a solo homer in the sixth and added three runs in the eighth to take a 10-6 advantage into the bottom of the ninth on the road.

The Reddies refused to go away quietly, and got a leadoff blast from Thomas, as well as an RBI fly out from Alec Lewis to close the gap to 10-8. HSU brought the winning run to the plate with two outs in the inning, but was unable to tie it up late.

Joshua Saulsbury pitched 2.2 innings of relief for Henderson and surrendered one run on three hits while striking out three.
