Reddies fall to the Crimson Storm in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. – Henderson State faced Southern Nazarene, who defeated the Reddies 3-0 in the seventh GAC match of the season.
 
HSU's attack registered 29 kills, 12 of those coming at the hand of sophomore outside hitter Christiane Uzoh. Aleah Stogner and Kaitlyn Sykes rounded out the rest of the attack with five and four kills, respectively.
 
Sykes and Uzoh led the defense on the net, tallying five and two blocks. Along with the pair, Larkin Luke also recorded two blocks.
 
Henderson (7-12, 1-6) returns to the Duke Wells Center to host Southeastern Oklahoma State University Thursday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m.
 
SET ONE
Southern Nazarene scored in a flurry to open the set, jumping to an 8-0 lead before Henderson scored its first points of the match. The Reddies responded by outscoring the Crimson Storm 7-1 to close the gap, down 9-7. SNU held their lead and stung together five attacks in a row to increase the gap to 19-13.
 
Southern Nazarene kept up the scoring, expanding its lead to 21-14. In control, the Crimson Storm ended the set with a pair of kills to win 25-16.
 
SET TWO
SNU scored the first two points of the set, but the Reddies responded, scoring four points in a row to take the first lead of the set. The two sides were in a stalemate at 5-5, 6-6 and 7-7. These would be three of nine moments the two teams were tied in the set.
 
A six-point run by SNU gave them some breathing room, up 13-7, but HSU stormed back to tie the set 17-17 and took the lead, 18-17. Neck and neck, the two sides sat at 22-22, and the Crimson Storm had three straight kills to end the set, winning 25-22.
 
SET THREE
Henderson started the scoring, taking an early 3-1 lead. Southern Nazarene responded with a four-point run and quickly followed with another four-point attack to take the lead, 9-5. SNU kept up the scoring, creating some breathing room, up 15-8. The Crimson Storm ended the set with an attack average of .500 and won the set 25-16.
