Reddies Run for 302 Yards, Keep SNU at Bay, 42-28

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - No. 22 Henderson State ran for a season-high 302 yards and scored a season-high 42 points Saturday afternoon as the Reddies wore down Southern Nazarene from inside Carpenter-Haygood Stadium, 42-28.

Three different players claimed career highs on the day as running backs Jeremiah Davis (144) and Fredrick O'Donald (108) became the first Reddie duo to rush for 100 or more yards in the same game since Oct. 1, 2022 as both Davis and O'Donald posted career highs on the ground. Hatzis joined Davis and O'Donald with the career days, catching four balls for a personal-best 146 yards and two touchdowns.

Andrew Edwards totaled five touchdowns - three passing and two rushing - matching his career-high from his second game as HSU's starting quarterback last season against Arkansas-Monticello when he threw four scores and saw one on the ground.

Defensively, the Reddies forced two turnovers - an interception from Tim Jennings and a fumble recovery from Josh Brown - while Zach Dixon forced a second fumble. Defensive End Dylan Ndambuki claimed two sacks as backup linebacker Jordan Owens led the team with six tackles.

Henderson's offense got off to its fastest start of the season, scoring three touchdowns on its first three drives to see a 21-0 lead after just the first 16 minutes and 23 seconds of game time. The defense aided in the quick start, forcing a three-and-out and turnover-on-downs on the Crimson Storm's first two drives.

Facing a three-score deficit, Southern Nazarene scored its first points of the game with 3:31 remaining before half. Moments later, the Crimson Storm picked off an Edwards pass on the ensuing Reddie drive for the HSU quarterback's first interception of the season as SNU threatened to score just before the break. Henderson's Tim Jennings corralled a tipped SNU pass off the receiver's hands with five seconds left to keep the score at 21-7.

That 14-point margin remained as such throughout the rest of the game. With the Crimson Storm getting the ball to start the second half, Thomas forced the Southern Nazarene fumble three plays into second-half action, which Henderson turned into seven one play later on an O'Donald 36-yard scamper up the middle to open a 28-7 advantage.

The Crimson Storm rattled off back-to-back touchdown drives, sandwiched around a Reddie three-and-out, to cut the lead to seven, 28-21, but Edwards' second touchdown pass of the afternoon late in the third maintained the 14-point edge. To start the fourth stanza, Hatzis claimed his second score of the contest to open HSU's biggest lead since early in the second quarter at 42-21, but the Crimson Storm refused to go away.

With the clock waning and the score in favor of HSU, 42-28, off a Henderson three-and-out, Ndambuki recorded one of his two sacks on an SNU fourth-down play with 2:04 left in regulation. A couple first downs later signaled victory for the Reddies.

No. 22 Henderson St. will remain in Arkadelphia for Homecoming weekend next Saturday, Oct. 14 when Southern Arkansas comes to Carpenter-Haygood Stadium for a 2 p.m. kick.
