KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Henderson State dropped its second game in as many days Saturday afternoon on day two of the Central Region Challenge by losing to St. Cloud State, 74-64.
Zyon Patterson scored 12 points for his second double-digit outing of the weekend as he is averaging 17 points per game through two games.
Malek Davis, after being held scoreless yesterday against Bemidji State, led the team with 16 points and a team-high four three-pointers.
Similar to yesterday's contest, Henderson out-shot its opponent, but this time, struggles at the free-throw line separated the two teams. Henderson shot just 45.0 percent (9-of-20) from the free-throw line while the Huskies went 26-for-37 from the charity stripe.
After an early 4-0 lead for the Reddies, play evened out as there were two ties and four lead changes in the first 10 minutes of action. With HSU seeing a 17-16 lead, a 10-0 run for St. Cloud opened a 26-17 advantage.
The red-and-gray did force one more tie before halftime before the Huskies posted a one-point lead at intermission, 32-31. However, another run was looming for St. Cloud.
The Huskies scored 13 of the first 14 points of the second half to establish a 45-32 lead. That lead remained as such with the exception of a quick six-point burst that cut the deficit down to two, but St. Cloud St. quickly built the advantage back to double-digits.
Free-throw shooting late in the game saw the Huskies build their largest lead of the afternoon at 74-58 before back-to-back triples from
Ken Lewis brought the game to its final margin, 74-64.
Henderson St. (0-2) returns to Arkadelphia for its home opener against the Lyon Scots Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
