Softball Wraps up Alvy Early Memorial Classic

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Henderson state finishes day two of the Alvy Early Memorial Tournament 1-1 with a win over Lincoln Missouri 4-3 and a loss to Central Missouri 11-10.

GAME ONE: HSU 4, LUM 3
The Reddies strung a pair of base runners off two errors by the Blue Tigers' shortstop, and one of those would result in Abbie Moore crossing home plate to put HSU up 1-0 in the bottom of the first.

Lincoln Missouri went to work in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with two outs. The Blue Tigers sent two runners home from second and third to go up 2-1 and would get their third run off a double to lead 3-1.

The Reddies responded immediately with a two-run home run off the bat from Brooke Johnson to knot the game at three all.

Three scoreless frames would send the game to extra innings. Veteran hitter Abbie Moore blasted a walk-off home run to right field to win the game for Henderson, 4-3, in the bottom of the eighth.

Johnson came out of the bullpen and pitched 4.1 innings and gave up two hits, zero runs and recorded five strikeouts. Moore went 2-of-4 at the plate and recorded a home run and a stolen base. The Reddies accumulated four hits and only one error.

GAME TWO: HSU 10, UCM 11
Henderson was able to hit around Central Missouri, getting baserunners in scoring position early and often in the bottom of the third. Abbie Moore would assist Justine Burch home after the Jennies' second baseman committed an error trying to throw Moore out, 2-1.

Katelyn McMahan doubled to right field to score another HSU run before Josie Copeland sent a three-run home run over the left field wall to extend the Reddies' advantage to 7-1. HSU scored six runs on three hits and left zero runners on the base path in the third inning.

Central Missouri started its rally in the top of the fifth, scoring three runs to cut HSU's advantage to 8-4. The Jennies continued to swing the bat well, adding another five runs in the sixth inning to take a one-run lead, 9-8. Henderson responded with a single from Brooke Johnson to send two runners home to jump ahead 10-9.

The Jennies stayed hot in the top of the seventh, adding two more runs to re-take the lead 11-10 and would retire the side in the bottom half to win.

HSU (3-5, 0-0) resumes action on Saturday, Feb. 18 when the team hosts the HSU/OBU Tournament, beginning with a doubleheader against Southwest Baptist at 12 p.m.
