ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State defeats Southeastern Oklahoma State 68-59 to complete the season sweep over the Savage Storm in the Duke Wells Center.
Ashley Farrar paced the Reddies with a team-high 21 points and eight rebounds, while
Gracie Raby had 13 and three rebounds. HSU shot 39.7 percent from the field but struggled from beyond the arc, going 2-20.
Farrar quickly found her range with back-to-back jumpers before Jiles made the team's only triple of the half to put HSU up 9-5. The Reddies continued to have success in the paint, scoring six more points to extend their lead to 15-9 after one period of play.
Four points from Raby in the first four minutes of the second period kept Henderson in front by six, 21-15. HSU's advantage would grow to ten with a 6-0 run in the middle of the frame after Farrar,
Eryka Patton and
Jasmine Bailey found the basket. Southeastern Oklahoma State would cut the Reddies' lead to five, but
JJ Eddens made her second bucket to put Henderson up 31-24 at halftime.
Farrar had a team-high eight points at the break, while Jiles and Raby each had five. Henderson struggled from beyond the arc in the first half, finishing 1-11 from the three-point line in the first 20 minutes of play.
Sonni Martin made the team's second triple of the game two minutes into the third period, but the Savage Storm responded with a 7-0 run to cut HSU's lead to three, 36-33. Henderson matched SE's spurt with six straight points, however, Southeastern Oklahoma State would bring the game back within three in the final minutes of the third period, 46-43.
The Savage Storm tied the game at 46 all with a three-point play off a made layup and foul shot to start the fourth period. HSU responded to SE tying the game with a 5-0 run to retake the lead 51-46, and Farrar would add to the Reddies' lead with four more points to extend the team's advantage to 58-48.
Henderson went 8-8 from the foul line in the last minute of the game to close out the contest 68-59 and secure the team's 12
th GAC win.
The Reddies (15-10, 12-7) remain at home for their next game against East Central on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center.
