Reddies Rally to Defeat East Central 85-76

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State erased an 11-point deficit in the third period to defeat East Central 85-76 in the Duke Wells Center Saturday afternoon.
 
The Reddies took advantage of 41 trips to the foul line, converting 36 of its shots, and Ashley Farrar finished the game 16-18 from the charity line. East Central finished with 28 team fouls and had two players foul out, while Henderson had 24 and two players with four personal fouls.
 
HSU had four players reach double-digit scoring figures, led by Farrar with 24 points. JJ Eddens and Bobbi Bazzle led the Reddies at the glass as the pair recorded seven rebounds each. Henderson ended the game shooting 34.5 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from the three-point line.
 
Farrar got the Reddies going in the first period with an early triple and converted two shots at the foul line to put HSU up 5-2. ECU tied the game at 9-9 before the first media break, and the two sides would trade baskets for the last five minutes of the period. East Central would take a two-point lead into the second period after scoring a late layup to go up 19-17.
 
The Tigers tacked on two more baskets to start the second frame and extend their advantage to 23-19. Henderson re-established its lead with the help of Abbie Jiles, who score a triple and jumper to jump ahead 24-23.
 
A 6-0 run that featured four points from Farrar extended the Reddies' advantage to 30-25. East Central ended the half with a six-point spurt to retake the lead with eight seconds left before the buzzer rang for halftime, 37-35.
 
East Central took its biggest lead of the game after a fast start to the third period, scoring 13 points in the first four minutes compared to the Reddies, who had four. Trailing by 11, HSU made three triples in two minutes from Eddens, Olivia Allen and Brynlee Huggins to cut ECU's lead down to three, 52-49.
 
Bobbie Bazzle tied the game up with a layup and foul shot before Allen made her second trey of the game to give HSU the lead 57-56. Jiles topped off the period with a layup in the dying seconds to put Henderson up by three.
 
A close game that had 12 lead changes and nine ties would be deadlocked again two minutes into the fourth when ECU made a triple to tie the game 59-59. The Reddies created a gap with a 5-0 run to go up 63-59 before extending their lead with another 5-point spurt, 76-68.
 
Farrar made three trips to the foul line in the last minute of the game and converted 5-of-6 from the charity line to end the game.  
 
Henderson State (16-10, 13-7) plays its final home game of the season on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 5:30 p.m. against Arkansas Tech in the Duke Wells Center.
