ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State sweeps its competition on day two of the Hawkins-McGhee Memorial Tournament, defeating Missouri Southern 11-3 and Northeastern State 4-3.
The Reddies accumulated 19 hits over the two contests, including six extra-base hits. Â

GAME ONE: HSU 11, MSSU 3
Missouri Southern stuck first off a
Meagan Allen wild pitch in the bottom of the second. After that, Allen gave up just two hits and zero earned runs in four innings.

The Reddies bats went to work in the bottom of the second, scoring most of its run this inning. The Lions' lead would only last a few pitches, as
Jay Albiter scored
Langley Miller off a single to center field. HSU tacked on two more runs after a throwing error by MSSU's catcher.

Lexi Trejo batted in a run and would also score a run herself to extend the Reddies' lead to 5-1. Another error by the Missouri Southern pitcher allowed
Miyah Jackson to score HSU's sixth run of the inning. Â

Allen kept the Missouri Southern bats quiet in the top of the third and fourth innings, allowing the Reddies to extend their lead to 8-1. Â

Henderson only needed three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the run rule to come into effect after MSSU scored two in the top of the inning. Albiter hit her third RBI of the day, scoringÂ
Isabel Robinson and
Jordyn Holland. Jackson came in with two outs and hit a walk-off single up the middle to win 11-3 in six innings. Â

GAME TWO: HSU 4, NSU 3
Abbie Moore got the Reddies on the board first in the bottom of the first with a double to left field, scoring
Kaitlyn O'Quinn. Northeastern State responded by scoring three runs off a double to right centerfield in the top of the second.

The Reddies pulled within one on a sacrifice fly ball by Jackson in the bottom of the second but could not muster anything in the third and fourth innings.Â

Henderson needing two runs in the bottom of the fifth, went to work, starting with leadoff hitter Trejo who worked a walk. Jackson doubled to right center field to put two runners in scoring position. A ground out from O'Quinn and a single from
Josie Copeland scored two runs to put HSU ahead 4-3.

Allen worked her way out of a bases-loaded situation in the top of the sixth and went on to strikeout the final two batters in the top of the seventh to get her second win of the day. Â
Henderson (2-1, 0-0) plays again Sunday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. against Missouri Southern at Dee White Field.Â
