HSU Gets Revenge on OKBU at Home, 68-56

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State defeats Oklahoma Baptist 68-56 in the Duke Wells Center to split the season series. HSU improves to 12-9 on the season and 9-6 in the GAC.

The Reddies had three players reach double-digit scoring figures, with Abbie Jiles leading the way with 17 points. Ashley Farrar and Gracie Raby rounded out the scoring with 16 and 14 points, respectively. On the glass, Eryka Patton had a team-high seven rebounds, including five offensive ones.

Henderson shot 27 percent from both the field and beyond the arc and converted 26-of-29 from the foul line. Oklahoma Baptist outrebounded HSU 43-39, but the Reddies won the battle on the glass on offense with 19 offensive rebounds.

The HSU defense did not allow the Bison offense to gain any rhythm in the opening period, holding OKBU scoreless for over six minutes after they scored two early baskets. In that time, the Reddies' offense went to work, taking a 7-4 lead. Jiles got hot from deep, draining three triples as HSU ended the period up 22-8.

OBKU cut Henderson's lead to ten in the opening minute of the second period, but Farrar made the Reddies' fourth trey of the game to extend the lead, 25-12. Farrar and Raby combined to score all 13 of HSU's points in the second period. Raby pulled up from deep and made the second triple of the period to put Henderson ahead by 14-points at halftime, 35-21.

A layup from Raby gave HSU its biggest lead of the game in the third period, going up by 16 points over the Bison. Oklahoma Baptist worked its way back into the game and was able to get within single digits, but a triple from Sonni Martin re-established HSU's double-digit lead. Henderson led 51-39, heading into the game's final ten minutes.

The Bison cut HSU's lead to six on a 7-0 run late in the fourth period, though there would not be enough time for a late OKBU rally. The Reddies went 8-8 at the foul line in the dying seconds of the game to stamp a 68-56 victory over Oklahoma Baptist.

Henderson State (12-9, 9-6) makes its final trip to the Sooner State this season as they get set to face Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
