Hoof Grand Slam Difference in 8-4 Victory Over ECU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - With Henderson holding a slim 4-2 lead after six and a half innings, Charles Hoof came through with his second grand slam of the season as the four-run homer stood to be the difference in the rubber match against East Central, 8-4.

Kaden Argenbright began the scoring for the Reddies with his own over-the-wall blast to score three runs, finishing his day going 1-for-2 at the plate while also working a pair of walks. Luke Rice was the other HSU batter to log an RBI after getting on base by virtue of a walk with the bases loaded.

Ethan Perry (2-0) earned the win on the mound after just one inning of relief, allowing just one hit while striking out one Tiger batsman. Ethan Roark opened the contest, throwing the first three complete innings before giving way to Perry. Henderson threw five pitchers on the afternoon, recording seven strikeouts while allowing just three hits.

As had been the custom for the first two games, play stood at 0-0 until the bottom of third. A Logan Cowart single before a Hoof walk gave way to Argenbright's two-out home run to right center for the 3-0 lead.

A single run from East Central in the top of the fourth brought the tally to 4-1, which is where it stayed for the next two and a half innings before another ECU run cut the HSU lead to one, 3-2. That would be as close the game got, however, as a five-run bottom of the seventh awaited the onlookers at Clyde Berry Field, highlighted by Hoof's grand slam to break the game wide open.

Despite the Tigers rattling off two more runs in the top of the eighth, pitcher Henry Coppens kept them from getting any closer after pitching the final innings, recorded a pair of strikeouts to give HSU its fourth series victory of the season.

Henderson St. (18-12, 10-8 GAC) will remain in Arkadelphia for another couple days when Arkansas Tech comes to town for a non-conference midweek bout Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 6 p.m.
