Softball Sweeps Arkansas Baptist in the Midweek

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State sweeps Arkansas Baptist in a midweek doubleheader matchup with a 6-1 win followed by a 10-2 victory.  
 
Kaitlyn O'Quinn was perfect at the plate with five hits with 3 RBIs and two stolen bases. Madison Treutlein had five RBIs across the three games and was 4-7 at the plate.
 
GAME ONE: HSU 6, ABC 1
Katelyn McMahan got the start in the circle and started the game with two strikeouts in the first inning before striking out the side in the second to keep Arkansas Baptist scoreless in the first two innings.
 
O'Quinn singled on her first at-bat and stole second before advancing to third off a single from Abbie Moore. A flyout from Josie Copeland scored O'Quinn, and the following batter, McMahan would triple to center field to add another run, 2-0. McMahan would make it home on the next hit to put HSU up 3-0 in the first.
 
Treutlein batted in three runs in the third and fifth innings to extend the Reddies' advantage to 6-0, and the Boffolas would add their lone run in the top of the sixth. Treutlein ended the game 3-3 at the plate with four RBIs, while O'Quinn was 2-2 in the batter's box and 2-3 on stolen bases.
 
GAME TWO: HSU 10, ABC 2
Another strong start for the Reddies in the circle by Sophie Weaver would keep Arkansas Baptist scoreless for the first two innings. Weaver punched out the side to start the first inning before recording two more strikeouts in the top of the second. McMahan had two RBIs in the first two innings to put Henderson up 3-0 early.
 
Arkansas Baptist got its first run of the game off a lead-off single before advancing home on a throwing error by HSU's third baseman to cut the lead to 3-1. The Reddies had runners in scoring position in the bottom half of the third with two outs after back-to-back strikeouts. A single up the middle by Lexi Trejo scored the first run before a two-RBI single from O'Quinn extended HSU's advantage to 6-1.
 
The Reddies scored twice in the fifth and sixth to run-rule the Buffolas in six innings. Justine Burch and O'Quinn recorded back-to-back RBIs in the fifth to add two more runs to HSU's lead, 8-2. A walk-off double from Bre Jones scored Crysta Larey from second to win the game in six innings, 10-2.

Henderson State (11-11, 3-3) travels to Magnolia, Ark. to face Southern Arkansas in a three-game series, beginning on Friday, Mar. 10 at 4 p.m. with a single game against the Muleriders.
