INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -
Kiara Pozvai claimed her team-leading third All-America selection on the second full day of the NCAA Division II National Championships. Pozvai was met by
Jase Pinckney and the men's 400 medley relays with the All-America nods.
The Red Wave women garnered 33 points on the day as they are currently in ninth place out of 31 teams with 78 points. The men are in 12th out of 27 teams with 82 points. Â
The men's 100 fly got the evening started for Henderson State, with
Jack Armstrong leading the way in the consolation swim. Armstrong got fourth in the consolation swim, putting his finals placement at 12th with a time of 47.33 as he garnered five points.
Jase Pinckney followed his teammate with a 46.95 seventh-place swim worth 12 points as the Mansfield, Texas native picked up what was at the time his first All-American bid of the week.
Pozvai served as the lone female individual competitor on the evening, swimming the 200 freestyle. After coming into the week as the No. 19 seed in the event, Pozvai came out fast in the morning prelims with a 1:48.22 time to claim the second seed heading into the finals. The already two-time All-American added a third to her laundry list of accolades with a fourth-place finish after touching the wall at 1:48.70 to grab 15 points.
The 400 medley relay closed out the night as the women's quartet of Pozvai,
Jessica Bongfeldt,
Isabelle Andrews and
Mackenzie Kester claimed a ninth-place finish with a time of 3:44.36, which was good for 18 points and a new Henderson State school record, smashing the old record of 3:46.78, which was set in 2011.
The Red Wave's final All-America bid came from the men's 400 medley relay as
Lamar Taylor,
Jaren Tippett,
Jase Pinckney and
Jack Armstrong placed fifth with a time of 3:10.97 as Pinckney notched his second All-America selection of the evening. Two school records were broken with the swim as, in addition to relay as a whole, Taylor's 100 back leg to kick off the race set a new record 46.13 as the National Champion now owns four of HSU's five fastest 100 back times in program history. Â
Pozvai, Taylor and
Jessica Bongfeldt will represent the individual swimmers for the Red Wave on the third full day of competition tomorrow with Pozvai and Taylor taking on the 100 backstroke before
Jessica Bongfeldt swims her 100 breaststroke. The night will be capped off the women's and men's 200 free relay.
