ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State dropped Tuesday night's non-conference game against Ouachita Baptist, 5-1. Both teams will meet a third, fourth and fifth time at the end of the season for a GAC three-game weekend series at Rab Rogers Field across the street.
The Tigers held the Reddies off the scoreboard until late in the night as HSU left nine runners on base.
Dillon Thomas was the lone Henderson batter to see multiple hits in the outing as he finished 2-for-4 at the dish.
The red-and-gray threw six pitchers in the midweek contest, with
Mitchell Szczygiel and
Henry Coppens seeing the best production on the mound. Szczygiel starting the game, throwing 2.0 scoreless and hitless innings, striking out three Tiger batters. Coppens came in later in the contest to see three strikeouts while allowing just one hit in the eighth for his only inning of work. Â
Both pitchers held the other scoreless until a home run in the third for OUA opened the scoring, 1-0. Through the first four innings, Henderson left at least one runner on base in three of the frames, yet to no avail. Ouachita added a pair of runs in both the fifth and the sixth to see a 5-0 lead.
Colton Patterson came through with a sacrifice fly to score
Kaden Argenbright in the sixth, but another base runner remained at second before the inning was retired. The score remained unchanged through the final three innings as the scoreboard read 5-1 until the final out.
Henderson St. (23-17, 14-10 GAC) will remain at Clyde Berry Field this weekend when Southern Nazarene comes to Arkadelphia for a three-game weekend series, beginning Friday, Apr. 14 at 6 p.m. Â
