ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State softball team drops the series finale to No. 20 Harding at Dee White Field after a slow start to the contest.
The Reddies (15-21, 7-13) travel to Monticello next weekend for a three-game series against in-state foe Arkansas-Monticello, starting Thursday, Apr. 6 at 3 p.m.
Katelyn McMahan recorded a multi-hit game, finishing 2-4 at the plate with an RBI and scoring a run.
Abbie Moore's home run in the third inning was the first hit of the game for HSU and would be the only hit for the third baseman as she finished 1-2.
Savannah Carrigan started game three of the series in the circle and surrendered four early runs across the opening two innings, and the Reddies would turn to
Brooke Johnson out of the bullpen to settle the game down in the top of the third.
The sophomore pitcher quickly found herself in a jam as Harding loaded the bases with zero outs after three consecutive hits. Johnson avoided any damage with a strikeout for the first out and got a force out and a groundout to end the inning, stranding all three runners and allowing zero runs.
In the bottom half of the third, Henderson cut Harding's advantage to two runs after a lead-off home run from Moore and a sacrifice fly by
Josie Golden, 4-2. HSU and HU traded runs in the fourth inning before the Lady Bisons hit a solo shot to left field to extend their lead to 6-3.
The Reddies threatened to add a run in the sixth after
Jorika Alvarez recorded a lead-off hit and stole second, and eventually made it to third safely. Moore came to the plate with a runner on third with two outs, but the third baseman would line out to the pitcher for the final out. In the seventh, Harding saw out the final inning, retiring the last two batters after giving up a single to McMahan with one out.
