Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State comes from behind late in the seventh inning to take down Arkansas-Monticello in the opening contest of the three-game series at Dee White Field.
HSU (16-21, 8-13) had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the seventh, trailing 4-2, and
Abbie Moore did what she had done all season and hit a go-ahead three-run home run to put the Reddies ahead 5-4.
Moore went 3-4 at the plate with two homers and drove in four runs while also scoring three.
Kaitlyn O'Quinn and
Katelyn McMahan each logged a multi-hit game, going 2-4, while McMahan also recorded an RBI. The Reddies outhit the Blossoms 10-5 and had six different players record a hit.
Arkansas-Monticello took the lead early in the bottom of the first on a single up the middle with bases loaded, scoring two runs. After a scoreless second frame from both sides, the Reddies cut the deficit in half off an RBI single from McMahan in the top of the third.
Two innings later, Moore hit a solo shot to tie the game 2-2, but the Blossoms responded with a two-run sixth inning to retake the lead 4-2.
A lead-off single by
Josie Golden in the top of the seventh brought the tying run to the plate, and
Jay Albiter laid down a bunt toward the third base line and would beat out the throw at first to put runners on first and second with no outs.
Justine Burch went down on a line out to UAM's second baseman for the first out of the inning, bringing Moore to the plate. The third baseman took the third pitch she saw and hit her second home run of the game over the left field wall to give the Reddies a 5-4 lead.
The Blossoms threatened late in the bottom half of the seventh after a batter doubled to right-center field and advanced to third on the next at-bat. A walk put runners on the corners with two outs, but Johnson got a ground out for the final out of the game to secure an opening victory.
The Reddies will look to clinch the series in tomorrow's doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
