Reddies Sendoff Seniors with Series Sweep Over ECU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Reddies (26-26, 11-17) hosted their Senior Day today, saying farewell to pitchers Presley Applegate and Jersey Cabana, along with players Langley Miller, Josie Copeland, Josie Golden and Jay Albiter.

Henderson State opened the game in the first inning taking a 1-0 lead. Hilary Akers walked, before advancing to second, on a wild pitch. A sacrifice bunt by Josie Golden advanced Akers to third. Josie Copeland hit an RBI groundout to score Akers.

East Central used a 2-run home run to take the lead in the second, but the Reddies tied it again in the third. A double by Golden put a runner in scoring position, before an infield single by Copeland advanced Golden to third. Pinch runner Annie Stonesifer sacrificed a stolen base to allow Golden to steal home, and the Reddies tied it 2-2.

In the fourth inning, Henderson State added two more runs, as Jay Albiter blasted a solo home run to deep center field to take the lead 3-2. Paige Brandes singled to put another runner on, and then advanced on a walk by Langley Miller. A sacrifice bunt by Mazzi Jones advanced the runners, and then a fielder's choice left the bases loaded. A walk by Copeland scored Miller from third, and the Reddies led 4-2.

The Tigers scored in the fifth, and then another in the sixth inning to tie the game 4-4. In the bottom of the sixth, Akers opened by reaching on a throwing error. Golden then singled to advance Akers to second and then advanced to third on another walk by Copeland. A single by Macy Hoskins scored Akers and Golden, which gave the Reddies the go-ahead lead 6-4. They would hold East Central scoreless in the seventh, and Henderson State completed the sweep with a final score of 6-4.

The Reddies recorded six runs on eight hits. Seniors Jay Albiter and Josie Copeland both recorded two RBIs on the day, with Albiter hitting the solo home run. Josie Golden earned a double and an RBI. Senior Jersey Cabana earned the start for the Reddies, pitching 4.1 innings, while giving up three runs on five hits, and striking out one. Senior Presley Applegate (13-12) entered in relief and earned the win, pitching the remaining 2.2 innings, giving up only one run on three hits, and striking out one.
