ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Henderson State softball team falls to No. 21 Oklahoma Baptist in a doubleheader at Dee White Field. The Reddies (18-27, 10-19) play game three of the series on Sunday at 12 p.m.
HSU finished the afternoon with seven hits across the two games, led by Raylee Carey, who had two hits in game one.
GAME ONE: OKBU 2, HSU 0
Starting pitcher Savannah Carrigan found herself in a jam early in the top of the first as Oklahoma Baptist had the bases loaded with one out. The right-handed pitcher worked out of the jam, allowing one run on a walk before getting the final out. The Bison had the bases loaded again in the fifth, but Carrigan would limit the damage to one run on a sacrifice fly, 2-0.
The Reddies threatened in the bottom of the second with runners on first and second with one out after Josie Golden and Raylee Carey recorded singles. The Reddies would leave the pair on after back-to-back strikeouts. Henderson finished the game with four hits but stranded five on the base path.
Carrigan threw all 7.0 innings and allowed two runs on six hits while getting eight OKBU batters to ground out. The Little Rock, Ark. native fell to 3-8 on the season in the circle in the 2-0 loss.
GAME TWO: OKBU 8, HSU 0
Oklahoma Baptist struck first in game two of the doubleheader, scoring an early run in the first to take the lead. The Bison plated four runs two innings later to extend their advantage to 5-0.
The closest Henderson came to getting on the scoreboard was in the bottom of the third when the team loaded the bases with zero hits. After starting the inning with two consecutive outs, HSU took advantage of mistake pitches from OKBU to load the bases. Oklahoma Baptist escaped without allowing a run after getting the final out of the inning on strikes.
The Bison added two more runs in the fourth to grow their advantage to 7-0. One more run crossed home plate for OKBU in the fifth to score the game's final run, 8-0.
