ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State drops the final game of the series to No. 21 Oklahoma Baptist 7-2 at Dee White Field.
HSU (18-28, 10-20) will close out the regular season with a trip to the Sooner State to face Southwestern Oklahoma State on Apr. 28-29.
Abbie Moore worked an 11-pitch lead-off walk in the bottom of the first and would score the first run of the game two batters later when Brooke Johnson hit a single to right field. Oklahoma Baptist struggled to field the ball off the bat of Johnson, which allowed Moore to reach home safe from first.
The Bison responded in the top of the second, plating three runs to take their first lead of the game, 3-1. The first runs of the frame for Oklahoma Baptist came on a two-run home run on the second at-bat of the inning. OKBU added one more before the final out came.
Presley Applegate came in for relief for Meagan Allen at the top of the third and gave the Reddies two scoreless innings in the third and fourth frames.
Oklahoma Baptist scored four more runs in the top of the fifth to grow its lead to 7-1. A throwing error by HSU's third baseman Moore allowed two runs to cross home to put the Bison ahead 5-1. A double and ground out by OKBU scored the final two runs of the inning after recording four hits.
The Reddies put Oklahoma Baptist under pressure late in the bottom of the seventh, loading the bases on two walks and a single from Jorika Alvarez. HSU scored a run off the bat of Moore, who grounded out to the third baseman to score Josie Golden. Kaitlyn O'Quinn worked a walk in the following at-bat to reload the bases, however, the Bison would get the final out of the game on a strikeout.
