Box Score WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Late runs by Southwestern Oklahoma State sees the Bulldogs take down Henderson State in game one of the weekend series.
HSU (18-29, 10-21) recorded six hits in the afternoon contest, and three of those knocks went for extra bases as
Abbie Moore,
Brooke Johnson and
Josie Golden each had a double.
The Reddies' first run came in the top of the third off the bat of Moore to score
Jay Albiter and tie the game at 1-1. Albiter began the inning with a lead-off single, and good base running put the shortstop on third after a groundout and wild pitch. Moore's first hit of the game was an RBI double to put HSU on the board.
SWOSU surged ahead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs to retake the lead 6-1. The Bulldogs chained together five hits and took advantage of a pair of throwing errors by the Reddies' defense.
HSU pulled a run back in the following inning after Johnson began the sixth with a lead-off double. Golden sent Johnson home on an extra-base hit down the right field line but would get thrown out at third trying to extend the hit to a triple for the final out, 6-2.
Two more runs scored for Southwestern Oklahoma State in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to 8-2. The Reddies will look to bounce back in tomorrow's doubleheader, which is set to start at 12 p.m.
