RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - One week into the 2023 season and Henderson State quarterback
Andrew Edwards has already garnered a GAC Offensive Player of the Week honor, the league announced Tuesday.
Edwards picked up right where he left off in 2022 as the reigning conference Freshman of the Year helped HSU move to 1-0 on the season with a 41-13 victory over East Central Thursday evening, throwing for 276 yards and four touchdowns with a 68.0 completion percentage (17-of-25).
Thursday was the Bentonville, Arkansas, native's second career game with four or more passing touchdowns. Along with his 31 rushing yards against the Tigers, it was also the redshirt sophomore's fourth career outing with 300 or more total yards (307).
Edwards and the Reddies will take on their first road test of 2023 when they head to Durant, Oklahoma, to face the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm (0-1) Saturday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. Last season, Edwards played just the first half of Henderson's 31-23 victory over the Savage Storm, completing seven of his 10 passes for 113 yards and one score.
