Reddies Tripped Up at Home by No. 7 Crimson Storm 75-53

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State gets tripped up at home by the No. 7 Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene as the Reddies fall 75-53.
 
Ashley Farrar and Sam Basson paced the scoring for the Reddies with 17 and 10 points, respectively. HSU struggled to shoot the ball against a stout SNU defense, as the team converted 26.2 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. JJ Eddens led the team at the glass with eight of the team's 39 rebounds and added six points to her totals. 
 
Henderson State (6-5, 2-3) resumes action on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m. in the Duke Wells Center when the Reddies take on Oklahoma Baptist.
 
Henderson State trailed early to the Crimson Storm after Southern Nazarene pushed ahead 9-2 in the first three minutes of the contest. HSU's Cardenas knocked down a triple to cut the deficit to three before an 8-0 burst, including five points from Farrar, had the Reddies down one, 16-15 with 1:48 left in the period. Southern Nazarene closed out the quarter's final minute with five straight points to carry a 21-15 edge after one period of play.  
 
SNU did not slow down in the firsts two possessions of the second period, draining back-to-back three-pointers to stretch its lead out to 27-15. The two sides traded baskets before Henderson's 4-0 run trimmed SNU's edge to 34-23. The Crimson Storm replied with an 8-2 run at the end of the half to carry a 42-25 advantage into the break. HSU was held to just 22.6 percent shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes, with Farrar leading the team with nine points at the half.
 
Southern Nazarene continued to shoot the ball well in its opening possessions, stretching its lead to 48-25 to begin the third quarter. The Reddies struggled to get the offense going in the third stanza, with just four points in the first five minutes. Basson and Farrar each knocked down a three-pointer in the final minutes of the period as HSU trailed 58-38 after three periods.
 
A three-point play by Farrar and a layup by Gittens opened the scoring for HSU in the final quarter, as HSU trailed SNU 60-43. The Crimson Storm remained hot from beyond the arc, draining their ninth triple of the game as part of a 5-0 run. Jadah Pickens provided the red-and-gray with its next four points, but Southern Nazarene remained in control for a 75-53 victory.
