BETHANY, Okla. - Henderson State posted its second straight win in a 48-21 victory over Southern Nazarene in Bethany, Oklahoma, on Saturday.
Following an HSU punt, Paul Manning recorded a diving interception to set the Reddies up on the edge of the red zone. Jeremiah Davis rushed for 21 yards on the ensuing drive, including a 10-yard score. Henderson went on to post 34 unanswered points in the first half. After the two teams scored 14 points apiece in the third quarter, Crimson Storm quarter Bryson Evans found wide receiver Evan Rader for a 33-yard touchdown to provide the final result.
Andrew Edwards completed 19 of his 29 throws for 244 yards and four touchdowns. He added 23 yards and a score on the ground on just nine touches. Zach Baker executed a 17-yard pass in the fourth quarter.
Elijah George led the Reddie receiving corps with 91 yards and two touchdowns on just three catches. George's first score was the result of a 25-yard strike in the second quarter. In the next quarter, the senior from Baytown, Texas, caught a short pass on a curl route before performing a tightrope act down the right sideline for a 62-yard touchdown.
Robbie Williams III paced the team with seven receptions that went for 68 yards and two touchdowns. Williams III caught the first of Edwards' four scores through the air on a 20-yard play in first quarter. He later hauled in a 13-yard score during the third quarter, which provided Henderson with its final offensive points of the game.
Micah Greene tallied two receptions for 40 yards, while Cayden Davis collected three catches for 33 yards. Jody Easter and Jeremiah Davis both finished the day with 14 receiving yards.
Davis led HSU's rushing attack with 94 yards and a score on 21 touches.
As a team, the Reddies totaled seven tackles for loss on defense. Jordan Owens led the charge with 1.5 tackles for loss and five total tackles. Keegan Stinespring, Gary Lewis, Josh Murray, and Derriun Thompson also posted stops behind the line of scrimmage. Jaylen Powell, Jakobe Shell and Ayden Ramirez all contributed half of a tackle for loss.
In the first quarter, Catrell Wallace recovered a fumble and ran it back 20 yards for a touchdown. Ty Thomas stripped the ball away from Rasheed Noel the following quarter. During the fourth, Keegan Stinespring forced a fumble that was recovered by SNU.
In addition to Manning's pick, Cameron Thomas recorded his fourth interception of the season on a deep pass late in the first quarter. He is now tied for the most interceptions of any player in the GAC.
The Reddies will look to extend their win streak to three games when they travel to El Dorado, Arkansas, next week to take on Southern Arkansas in the Murphy USA Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, at Memorial Stadium.
