SHAWNEE, Okla. - An early 13-2 lead from Henderson State was erased with a six-minute first-half scoring drought from the visiting Reddies, proving to be the difference in Oklahoma Baptist's 79-66 victory from the Noble Complex Thursday night.
Henderson outscored OKB in the second half, 39-36, but lost the first half, 43-27, including being outscored 41-14 over the final 15 and a half minutes of the opening period.
Clarence King made the most of his time on the court, scoring 12 points in 13 minutes of action on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting night while also adding four free-throws.
Tim McDonald led the team with 13 points while also recording eight rebounds. True freshman
Rece Hipp claimed a season-high nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc.
Oklahoma Baptist found a big edge in the turnover battle on the night as it scored 20 points off of turnovers while the Reddies claimed just four such points.
As previously mentioned, Henderson State started out hot, opening a 13-2 lead at the 15:22 mark of the first half. The Bison fought their way back as HSU saw a slim 19-17 advantage at the 9:47 point. From that point, the Reddies proceeded to go on a six minute and 20 second scoring drought.
Before the red-and-gray scored again, OKB had establish a nine-point lead, growing it 16 at the break and again to 23 just over two minutes into second-half action. With all the momentum on the home side, Henderson was unable to get it within 14 until the final buzzer sounded as a final free-throw from McDonald brought it 13.
Henderson State (6-12, 5-8 GAC) will remain in Oklahoma two more nights when it heads across town to Bethany, Oklahoma, to take on Southern Nazarene Saturday, Feb. 3 at 3 p.m.
