ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - With Henderson State holding a 6-5 lead after seven innings, Northwest Missouri State rallied with 10 runs in the final two frames for a 15-6 victory.
The Reddie pitching staff threw 18 walks in the nine-inning contest, including seven in the final two innings to help NWMSU mount the comeback.
Logan Cowart led the team with a season-high three hits, followed by
Dillon Thomas' two hits. The red-and-gray recorded five multi-base hits compared the Bearcats' two, but the 18-7 walk discrepancy stood to be the difference.
Neither pitcher allowed a run until the third inning when a single Northwest Missouri run was met by two from HSU off three hits. The Bearcats added three runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.
Henderson retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a
Kaden Argenbright double and a
Luke Rice sacrifice fly to make the tally 4-4. One more run from NWMSUÂ in the sixth was once again answered with a pair of runs in the seventh for the 6-5 Reddie advantage after seven innings.
With the game seeing three lead changes up to that point, the Bearcats used a fourth lead change to move ahead for good. A three-run eighth, highlighted by a two-out home run, and a seven-run ninth allowed Northwest Missouri to race ahead for the 15-6 victory.
Henderson State (3-3) will return to Clyde Berry Field tomorrow for the series finale against the Bearcats at 12 p.m.
