Baseball Drops High-Scoring Finale Versus Bearcats, 17-15

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State and Northwest Missouri State capped off their four-game series with a combined 33 runs as the Bearcats captured the Sunday matinee contest, 17-15.

Six Reddies logged two or more runs scored. At the plate, Luke Rice delivered a game-high five hits while true freshman Cal Jones recorded three hits, two of which were doubles, and three RBI. Nick Tremblay totaled his third home run of the weekend.

The Henderson pitching staff allowed five extra-base hits, including two home runs, while administering 13 walks. On the flip side, the HSU defense was responsible for three errors in the late-game loss.

The high-scoring affair began in the first inning with Henderson State answering Northwest Missouri's two first-inning runs with four of its own. A Louis Holt lead-off single yielded four more hits, including an RBI single and double from newcomers Jones and Julio Vazquez, respectively.

Both teams combined for three more crooked numbers prior to the eighth inning. With Henderson holding a 14-13 lead with play heading into the eighth, Northwest Missouri's offense really started to take fire with its third three-run inning or better in the last four frames to seize a 16-14 lead.

Kaden Argenbright was able to get one back for HSU with an RBI-single, scoring Nick Tremblay to cut the deficit to one, 16-15. With a single run being all the Reddies were able to muster, an insurance run from the Bearcats in the visitor-half of the ninth brought the red-and-gray to the plate needing to make up at least two runs.

Rice's fifth hit to start things off brought the tying run to the plate, but a foul-out to first was followed by a double play as Northwest Missouri left Arkadelphia with the 17-15 victory.

Henderson State (3-4, 0-0) will remain in Arkadelphia when it faces Union University Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. from Clyde Berry Field
