ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State took a 2-0 lead into the second inning before No. 23 Missouri Southern State scored 16 unanswered runs to finish the game early, 16-4.
Kaden Arenbright delivered his second two-hit game of the young season, going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Alex Day (1-3) and
Mitchell Szczygiel (1-3) each recorded two RBIs.
Szczygiel got the scoring started in the late-night affair with a two-RBI single that scored
Luke Farrar and
Louis Holt. That gave HSU its only lead of the night, as No. 23 Missouri Southern immediately responded with a four-run top of the second.
Over the course of the next six innings, the Reddies threw six arms at the high-powered Lions offense. With HSU facing an 8-2 deficit after seven frames, MSSU posted eight runs in the eighth for the decisive 16-2 lead.
Day recorded the first home run of his career in the final at-bat for HSU as a two-run shot scored
Dillon Thomas for the third and fourth runs of the game, but the game ended shortly after that with a 16-4 final score.
Henderson State (1-1) will return to Arkadelphia for a day when it plays its true home opener from Clyde Berry Field Saturday at 3 p.m. against Colorado School of Mines.
